In the project “Melanin +/-” I position myself in relation to the theme of race – a topic that is almost taboo in Israeli society but serves as a prominent identity marker in German society where I now live.
Nowadays, there is no other medium that can compete with digital media. The painted picture can never run against a photo or a video. At first sight, the painted image looks like a primitive medium, which has stopped time. That is why I decided that my paintings shall look like a graffiti on a wall. This explains my idea about the project “Migration”.
Liminality is a philosophical term that describes the threshold state resulting from the collision of two different worlds or states of mind, which is characterised by extreme ambiguity and vagueness. This is also the case when two different cultures collide, resulting in these blurred states. The same term is also used to describe an individual who is transitioning into a new phase of life or who lives torn between two cultures.
